Kia car key expert — every model covered
Lost, broken or simply need a spare for your Kia car key? DKP — DrKeyPro is the leading mobile auto locksmith for Kia across France and Belgium. Our technicians come to your address within 30 to 90 minutes, 24/7, with the correct OEM-grade blanks and diagnostic equipment to cut and programme a new Kia key on the spot.
Kia is one of the most dynamic generalist manufacturers in Europe, and its recent models (Sportage, Sorento, Niro, EV6) use a reinforced Smart Key with HITAG3-AES128 encryption that demands professional diagnostic equipment. A little-known fact: although Kia belongs to the same group as Hyundai — Hyundai Motor Group — and shares much of its technical architecture, each brand keeps its own independent immobiliser system; a Kia key will never work on a Hyundai's calculator, or the other way round. Our certified locksmiths cover the full range, from the compact Picanto to the all-electric EV6.

Kia immobiliser systems — what you need to know
Technical notes on Kia key programming
- Classic transponder (Picanto, Rio entry-level): standard blade or flip key, programmable via OBD.
- Smart Key HITAG3-AES128 (Sportage, Sorento, Niro, EV6): a reinforced security layer requiring the security PIN to be extracted from the calculator before any key can be programmed. DKP carries the certified equipment for this operation.
- E-GMP platform (EV6): Kia's dedicated electric architecture, shared in principle with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but managed under Kia's own calculator and security codes.
- Hyundai Motor Group architecture: Kia's immobiliser design is closely related to sister brand Hyundai's, but ECUs and codes are never interchangeable — each brand keeps a fully separate system.
- Security PIN: DKP extracts the vehicle's security code directly from the calculator via the OBD port.
- Stolen key deactivation: on most models, DKP can erase stolen keys from the vehicle's memory, leaving only the new ones active.

Kia key replacement — FAQ
How long does a Kia key replacement take?
A Kia key duplication takes 45 to 90 minutes on-site. A total key loss on a Smart Key HITAG-AES model (Sportage, Sorento) or the electric EV6 can take up to 2 hours, including security PIN extraction and full system test.
Do Kia and Hyundai share the same key?
No. Kia and Hyundai belong to the same group — Hyundai Motor Group — and their immobiliser architecture is closely related, but each brand keeps its own ECU and security codes. A key programmed for a Hyundai will be rejected by a Kia's calculator, and vice versa. DKP technicians master both systems separately — see also our
Hyundai key replacement page.
How much does a new Kia key cost?
A spare transponder key for a Kia Picanto or Rio costs €179-€239 via DKP. A Smart Key HITAG-AES for the Sportage, Niro or Sorento costs €249-€379. An EV6 electric key on the E-GMP platform can reach €459. All prices include the mobile call-out and programming.
What is the HITAG-AES system on a Kia?
On recent Sportage, Sorento, Niro and EV6 models, the Kia Smart Key uses a HITAG3 transponder with AES128 encryption — an extra security layer that requires extracting the vehicle's security PIN from the calculator before any key can be programmed. DKP carries the equipment needed to perform this operation via the OBD port.
